Frequently Asked Questions
Here are answers to common questions about Referrals For Breakfast – including fit, expectations, and how participation works.
About Referrals For Breakfast
Referrals For Breakfast is a local, in-person business networking group built around consistency, trust, and real professional relationships.
We meet early, keep meetings structured, and focus on getting to know the people behind the businesses we refer. The emphasis is not on high-pressure selling or scripted pitches, but on long-term relationships that naturally lead to quality referrals over time.
RFB is designed for referral-worthy business owners, professionals, and tradespeople who do good work, show up consistently, and value reputation. Meetings are one hour, start and end on time, and are intentionally calm, respectful, and focused.
The ongoing focus of Referrals For Breakfast is on its members and visitors, not on group structure, maintenance, or housekeeping. The group exists to serve the people in the room, not the other way around.
We focus on building a strong, supportive membership community where referrals flow naturally because people know and trust each other’s work. The tone is warm, conversational, and professional – never high-pressure or pitch-driven. Our aim is to help members form genuine business relationships that lead to high-quality referral opportunities over time.
Referrals For Breakfast operates as a division of Your Local Handyman, Inc®. The program is locally developed and operated, with a strong focus on professionalism, consistency, and community trust.
Visiting a Meeting
Yes. We ask visitors to pre-register so we can prepare seating, introductions, and keep the meeting running smoothly.
You can register through the Visit a Meeting button on the Meeting Info page. If someone recommended the group to you, they can also register on your behalf.
If your plans change, just reply to your confirmation email and we’ll adjust accordingly.
There is no membership fee for the first 2-3 visits.
We recommend that you purchase something for breakfast. This shows support for the venue. You’ll simply cover the cost of your own meal.
Come dressed as you would for a normal workday – clean, presentable, and practical. A suit and tie aren’t required unless that’s your everyday style.
We ask that clothing be respectful and free of profanity, vulgarity, or inappropriate graphics.
Our Prince George chapter meets at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 43.
As a courtesy to their traditions, please note that hats are not worn inside the facility.
Just the basics:
- A simple 1-minute introduction about who you are and what you do.
- A small stack of business cards (or a digital card) for anyone who requests one.
- An open mindset toward meeting and supporting other professionals.
Membership & Attendance
We meet every Tuesday from 7:00–8:00 AM. Meetings start and end on time so you can get to work without stress.
Consistency matters, but we don’t believe in policing attendance.
We meet weekly, and most members choose to attend regularly because the value is in being present. That said, life and business demands happen. If you need to miss a meeting occasionally, that’s understood.
Rather than rigid attendance rules, we focus on:
- meaningful participation
- contribution to the group
- and whether the membership remains a good fit for both you and the chapter
If attendance becomes consistently difficult, we may check in – not as a penalty, but to make sure the group is still serving you well and that the chapter remains strong for everyone. In some cases, a knowledgeable colleague or partner may attend on your behalf when you’re unavailable.
Our goal is a full, engaged room – not enforced compliance.
Members who get the most value are usually the ones in the room – and that tends to take care of itself.
In some cases, yes. A trusted team member, partner, or significant other may attend on your behalf. The key is that they can represent your business professionally and participate fully. Occasional substitutions are fine; regular attendance by the primary member is expected.
Yes of course! We don’t restrict you from joining other groups. We simply ask that you honour your commitment to show up, participate, and support this community consistently.
Membership is open.
You can apply at any time through our Join page or while attending a meeting.
Yes. Both are welcome. All memberships share the same monthly fee and core benefits.
Referrals, Wins, and Results
A referral is a warm connection where:
- the other person knows you’re being recommended, and
- there is a real possibility of doing business with the person they referred to you.
Simply giving out someone’s card without context isn’t a genuine referral.
Referrals are shared during the meeting and lightly tracked so we can see how opportunities move through to real business.
Yes. For each visitor you refer who later becomes a Member, you earn a $20 credit applied to your account. Credits typically appear on your next billing cycle. You can invite a visitor anytime through the Invite a Visitor page.
A confirmed win is business that actually concludes successfully and came directly from a referral through the group – not just a casual conversation. We track confirmed wins (basic info; not full details) so members can see real, measurable outcomes.
No. Some weeks you’ll have referrals; some weeks you won’t. What matters is that you stay engaged, listen for opportunities, and look for ways to help others whenever it’s natural and genuine.
Meals, Money, and Venue
No. Breakfast is purchased individually from the venue.
Membership is $49.95 per month, plus 5% GST.
This monthly rate already accounts for scheduled breaks (such as Christmas and Summer holidays), so pricing stays consistent year-round.
Fees may be reviewed periodically as the program grows, but any changes will always be communicated well in advance.
We meet in person each week at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 43, #101 – 1116 6th Avenue in Prince George.
Future chapters will have their own meeting locations, which will be posted on the Meeting Info page.
Our primary format is in person. Online meetings (via Zoom) may be used for poor weather, emergencies, or short-term disruptions, but they are not intended as a permanent replacement for attending in person.
Fit and Conduct
People who:
- show up consistently,
- value trust and integrity,
- are willing to both give and receive help, and
- understand that strong relationships take time to grow.
Yes. We expect members and visitors to:
- be respectful and professional,
- avoid pressure-based selling,
- keep discussions free of partisan politics and divisive topics, so the focus stays on business and relationships,
- honour confidentiality when sensitive details are shared, and
- when meeting in a Legion, remove hats as a sign of respect for those who served.
Yes, as long as you are actively operating and ready to take on work. This group works best for businesses that can both give and receive referrals. New and established businesses can both benefit, and often support each other.
